The week (Monday 7 to Sunday 13 July) was set aside to recognise and honour all those who work and volunteer with children, young people and their families (CYPF) across the country.

Recognise is an initiative of the Church of England’s 30k Project, which aims to raise up to 30,000 new children and youth leaders by 2030 through:

•Recruitment of volunteers

•Training and formation of new CYPF ministers

•Enhancing support for existing CYPF ministers.

On Tuesday 8 July, around 100 workers and volunteers involved in CYPF ministry were invited to Lambeth Palace for a reception hosted by the 30k Project, thanking them for their dedication to this important ministry.

Three youth leaders from our diocese attended the reception.

Gary Pickett, a full-time Families & Children’s Worker from Steyning Parish Church said it was a wonderful gathering of youth workers from all over the country which culminated in a photo with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Sarah Mullally.

He said: “It was a privilege to be invited to Lambeth Palace. The great hall was filled with people from different parts of England, all who work in Children’s, Youth and Families work, all being recognised for the work they do.

“Whilst it was lovely to have a chance to walk in the gardens of Lambeth Palace and enjoy a wonderful afternoon tea, what I enjoyed most was listening to the amazing keynote speakers Elle Mumford and Ben Lindsay.

“The Archbishop of Canterbury came in and gave a excellent talk as well and before she had to go to her next appointment, we managed to get a quick photo. It was such a great day and experience.”

Each of the youth workers also received a letter from His Majesty, King Charles III,  to say thank you.
