Following the highly successful relaunch of the Bishop’s Certificate in 2026, the course will be offered again in 2027.
The Bishop’s Certificate is an exciting opportunity for lay people across the Diocese of Chichester to deepen their understanding of the Christian faith, explore their calling, and grow in ministry.
Whether you're exploring lay leadership, preparing for a specific ministry role, or simply seeking to enrich your discipleship, this course is designed to support and inspire you. If you scroll to the bottom of this page, you will find the course overview, and links to the application form.
Course Details
Duration: 20 weeks + 3 Saturdays over 3 terms
Start Date: January 2027
Locations (across the four archdeaconries):

Start date: TBC Tuesday evenings - St Laurence Church, Sea Place, Worthing BN12 4BY
Start date: Monday 25 January 2027, 19:00–21:00 - St Peter & Paul Church Hall, Parkstone Road, Hastings TN34 2NT
Start date: Monday 25 January 2027, 19:30–21:00 - Church of the Ascension, Vale Road, Haywards Heath RH16 4JS
Start date: TBC Wednesday evenings, 19:30–21:00
Study Days
- Term 1 – Saturday 13th March 2027
- Term 2 – Saturday 12th June 2027
- Term 3 - Saturday 27th November 2027
- All study days run 10:00–15:00, venue TBC
Who can join?
This course is open to anyone in the diocese with a desire to grow in faith and service. No prior theological training is required — just a willingness to learn and participate.
Successful completion of the certificate also allows you to apply for the ALM preaching elective, subject to the usual conditions.

Course fee
£50 (No fee for those who are unemployed)
