“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace…” – 1 Peter 4:10
Welcome to this HR Toolkit for parishes.
We hope this information will help your PCC as you manage and develop your staff and volunteers’time and talents to serve others and advance God's kingdom, while also demonstrating love and care for those around us and keeping compliant with employment law!
In HR speak, people management is about: “the right people in the right place at the right time, enabled to work and minister fruitfully.”
Good stewardship in managing Human Resources means:
- Enabling people to flourish
- Using time and talents wisely
- Ensuring legal and safeguarding compliance

Training & Development Resources
We’re pleased to have partnered with Cademi Training to give parishes access to a wide range of online learning and development opportunities. The platform offers more than 1,000 courses, covering everything from new starter induction pathways and management training to food hygiene, Martyn’s Law for venues and neurodiversity.
The DBF has purchased a group subscription for parishes, which can be used to support staff, volunteers and those who have responsibility for managing employees, including PCC members undertaking a line management role.
We hope parishes will find this a useful and flexible resource, whether you are bringing a new member of staff on board, developing management skills, meeting specific training needs, or investing in the development of your staff and volunteers.
If you would like access, or would like to find out more about what training is available for your parish via this online platform, please get in touch by emailing Parish.Training@chichester.anglican.org.
