Ardingly show - bigger and better than before

The South of England Show is back this year from 10-12 June in all its glory - reminiscent of pre-Covid days and with a real focus on going back to its roots as an agricultural show, with more than 100 fun things to see and do.

THE diocese will once again be hosting a Sanctuary at the South of England Show in Ardingly in June.

Rev Sue Wilkinson is the co-ordinator of the space, which will be staffed by Christians from churches across Sussex.

Sue said: “We are delighted to welcome you back to the showground again this year. The Sanctuary is a relaxed area staffed by a small team. Visitors and the showground staff have appreciated the presence of the Sanctuary space and we consistently get positive feedback.

“This year, as well as operating a safe space for any lost people, we will be welcoming back the Salvation Army refreshments van and other charity partners.

“Together we will be providing hospitality and an area for baby changing so that families can find a relaxed place to rest their weary feet and enjoy a refreshing drink and a sweet treat.

“Mothers’ Union will be joining us this year for the first time. One of the things that they are well known for, apart from their vital work with families, is cake. Please do come and join us for conversation, cake and a chance to meet some of the volunteers and hear about the great work they do across Sussex. We ask for a small donation for tea and cake.

“The Sanctuary in its current set-up has been going for six years now but the Church has always had a presence at the show from the very beginning. It celebrated 50 years in 2017.

“The show has always been an excellent opportunity for outreach, to both visitors and stall holders. Visiting clergy come along to help take the Church out into the wider community by being present and often being asked to judge a competition, get involved in the education hub or to simply respond to questions on faith and farming.

“Be assured you will receive a warm welcome from the team.”

Corrie Ince, Show Director for the South of England Agricultural Society, commented:
“We were very fortunate that we were able to hold The South of England Show in 2021, albeit on a much smaller scale.  A day at the show offers a unique opportunity to see and sample all the wonderful things our countryside and region have to offer.

“As a charity, we are grateful for the support of the general public. Their attendance of our shows means we can raise vital funds to support people with an interest or involvement in land-based industries including agriculture, horticulture, viticulture, forestry, and more. We look forward to seeing you!”

The show will run from June 10 to June 12. For more details, call Sue on 07713 097661. We are still looking for volunteers so if you are interested in helping on any of the days please contact Lisa.williamson@chichester.anglican.org
