The 12th September is Education Sunday in the Church of England. Trevor Cristin, Diocesan Director for Education, asks for prayers for our schools as the new academic year begins.

Our school leaders, both staff and Governors have had to carry a heavy burden during the pandemic but they have done so selflessly and creatively. It has been a joy to see our schools continue to thrive as loving, learning communities and for that we give thanks.

A key focus for the Diocesan Education Team this year is our Growing Partnerships initiative. This is focussed on developing a strong partnership between our churches and their local schools. Together we are part of the local Household of Faith and our worshipping communities have the potential to have great impact when they work in partnership together. Our Growing Partnerships document has been sent to all schools and their linked clergy but it can be accessed here. There is also a short video explaining the project on our website here.  Do please have a look at it. The covenant within it sets a challenging standard but our hope is that local communities will undertake a journey that will see church and school growing in their support for each other.

Thank you for praying for our schools. Please hold up our Governors, Headteachers, staff, children and their families. There are over 37,000 children across the diocese in 154 schools.
