The Diocese of Chichester are hosting a conference entitled ‘The Journey’, as an outlet for children’s leaders and clergy to address the ever problematic issue of declining church attendance among the younger generation.

A priority highlighted by Bishop Richards at Diocesan Synod this year, is to develop work with children and young people.

Statistics showcase the shifting patterns between church goers and the association with younger people, therefore addressing these changing times is more important then ever. This conference is a must for every parish. Learn a practical response to this growing concern, that you can embed into your parish life.

“Do make a priority in your diaries to come with your team” Comments The Bishop of Lewes.

Keynote Speakers: The Bishop of Lewes, Sandra Millar, Mary Hawes, Rob Dillingham

Programme keynote sessions include:

  • 1.How did we get here? (Irene Smale - What has happened to children’s work historically re the impact of culture, society and the church, what lessons must we learn from the past?)
  • 2.Where are we now? (Rob Dillingham. What is the current diocesan landscape concerning parish work – what are the needs?)
  • 3.Where are we going? (Sandra Millar - The impact of the Church of England National research projects. What is happening nationally? What can we learn from that? How can it help inform our practice?)
  • 4.How can we work more collaboratively? (Mary Hawes – Growing Faith in the parish, school and home, an overview of Nigel Genders’ proposal to the House of Bishops).
  • 5.What are our future hopes and dreams? (The Bishop of Lewes– What is the Bishops’ and senior staff vision for our diocesan children and families?)

There will also be 12 workshops led by practitioners drawn from across the diocese currently working at grass roots level with children and families.
