St Andrew’s Church West Tarring has a strong and vibrant history of choral music.

For September 2026 we are looking to award four Choral Scholarships to enhance the life of our choir. We want to train and inspire a new generation in the rich heritage of Anglican choral singing.

We are looking forward to receiving applications from singers who:

• Are at least 17 years old on 1st September 2026
• Are currently in full time education
• Sing bass or tenor
• Study music (as an academic subject or extra-curricular eg. Instrumental lessons)

The successful applicants will be committed to attending Friday evening rehearsals and Sunday morning services during term time as well as special services during the year including Choral Evensongs and major festivals during Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week and Easter (a full list of these for the year is available).

Each Choral Scholar will receive £250 towards their expenses each term.

They will receive professional vocal and musical training in the skills required to sing plainsong, Anglican Chant, settings, motets and anthems to a high standard, with a particular focus on singing unaccompanied. This experience is designed to open up a whole future of choral singing in churches, cathedrals and beyond. Most of all they will experience the joy of being part of a church choir and all that goes with it. We hope that the successful candidates will find the experience they gain and the fellowship they enjoy at St Andrew’s valuable and rewarding for their personal development. We also hope they will find joy in contributing and serving as a member of our wonderful community.
