The Acting Bishop of Chichester, the Rt Rev Will Hazlewood, presented the investiture into the Order of St Richard during choral evensong at Chichester Cathedral.

Those attending the event included the Lord-Lieutenant of West Sussex Lady Emma Barnard, and Gary Shipton in his capacity as High Sheriff of West Sussex. He said: "It was a real privilege to be a part of this joyful occasion and to meet so many individuals - of all ages - whose contributions in some cases stretched over many decades."

The award was launched in 2019 by Bishop Martin, who retired as Bishop in May. Since then more than 220 people have received the award, representing over 150 parishes in the diocese.

Lay people, volunteers, churchwardens, fundraisers, and community workers - are nominated each year by their parish clergy and a supporting sponsor. These faithful servants form part of a much larger group of dedicated volunteers who give their time so freely supporting and encouraging their local church communities to thrive.

Recipients receive a signed certificate from the Bishop of Chichester and a badge bearing St Richard's episcopal coat of arms.
