Diocese welcomes Rev'd Nancy from Nakuru, Kenya
The Diocese welcomed Rev’d Nancy Maina, the Warden at St Nicholas Children’s Centre in ACK Nakuru Kenya, who is on a two-week tour of the Diocese at the invitation of The Friends of Nicholas UK, a charity raising funds in the diocese to support the vital, continuous programme to equip children with life skills and prospects, and the essential works at the centre.
Nancy arrived in the UK and preached at Slindon church on Sunday 21st June, where she read from the Book of Matthew Vs 35-40. The next day she began the first visit of the tour at St John's. She was greeted by Rev'd Emma and members of the Diocesan Overseas Committee, Mothers' Union Diocese of Chichester, and FSW Family Support Work, who were all on hand to hear a moving account from Nancy of the inspirational transformations that have been taking place at the Children's Centre, by the grace of God.
We also heard from the trustees of the Friends of the St Nicholas Children Home, The Ven Rev'd Lionel Whately, and Peter Scofield, who both work tirelessly to raise funds for the centre. Currently their endeavours are focused on water access and sanitation, building on their work with the successful installation of a water borehole, giving the centre something we here in the UK take for granted - clean water.
Building relationships and seeing behind the scenes of the fundraising efforts is at the heart of Nancy’s visit, and over the two weeks, she will visit many places and meet many people, including Bishop Ruth. There is also a trip to Chichester Cathedral and St Paul's in London. A short interview with Nancy and representatives of Friends of the St Nicholas Children Home will be available in due course.
