Parishes pledge deeper collaboration towards Net Zero 2030
Parish officers from the Dioceses of Guildford, Portsmouth, Chichester and Winchester gathered last month for a joint weekend conference designed to raise hope and strengthen collaboration in caring for God’s creation.
The conference in Guildford brought together more than 150 people from parishes across the South to share experiences and learn how best to make progress towards our goal of caring for creation. Delegates returned home inspired by real examples of churches striving towards net zero, and with practical guidance on securing grant funding.
A powerful address from a group of young Christians reminded participants why creation care is central to faith. While acknowledging the scale of environmental damage, the young speakers shared a hopeful message: churches should not be shamed by what they haven't done, but inspired by Jesus’ teachings to take the next step—reducing their carbon footprint and marking an annual day to celebrate environmental action as part of the Creationtide season.
