    Assistant DAC Secretary

    Applications are invited for the role of Assistant DAC Secretary to support the work of the Diocesan Advisory Committee for the Care of Churches.

    There are 466 churches in the Diocese of Chichester, 75% of which are listed, including 181 at Grade I. This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Church Buildings team and to play a role in supporting parishes in conserving, repairing and developing this very special collection of buildings.

    We are looking for a self-motivated and organised individual with excellent administrative skills and a strong interest in historic buildings. An understanding of the Church of England and the purpose of church buildings as places or mission and worship would be an advantage.

    The main duties of the Assistant DAC Secretary will include: 

    Providing guidance, advice and support to parishes, Archdeacons, and others on the care of church buildings, church contents and churchyards

    Arranging and servicing DAC meetings and assisting the DAC secretary with casework

    Assisting parishes with making faculty applications and providing support to parishes to register with the Online Faculty system and making List B and faculty applications

    Arranging DAC site visits and writing up site visit reports

    This role is offered at a salary of £18,000 per annum (pro rata of FTE of £30,000 pa). The hours are 21 hours per week, with the option to work these flexibly through the week.  The position is based at Church House, Hove with the opportunity to apply to use the DBF’s remote working policy to work from home for part of the week.  

    We offer a 0.6 pro-rata entitlement of 28 days of annual leave, plus bank holidays and 2 privilege days per year, flexi-time, free parking, the ride to work scheme, and the Diocesan Pension Scheme with 15.1% employer contribution.
