Diocese of Chichester

Celebrating the Rural Church and Community

Led by Revd Gary Cregeen at Penhurst Retreat Centre on Monday 29th June
Starts:

29 jun 2026. 10 a.m.

Ends:

29 jun 2026. 4 p.m.

For hundreds of years village churches have been at the centre of their rural communities. Despite a growing ambivalence about organised religion, many still see the village church as their spiritual home, a beacon of hope in an uncertain world, and a symbol of God’s unchanging love. This unique dynamic, where the rural church is deeply rooted in the wider community, provides both challenge and opportunity. This Retreat Day will include biblical reflection relating to the rhythms of the agricultural year, focussing on Plough, Rogation, Lammas, and Harvest. Alongside simple seasonal liturgy, there will be time for personal reflection and prayer. Join Revd Cregeen, Rural Officer for the Diocese at Penhurst Retreat Centre, TN33 9QP. The cost for the day, to include a two course meal at lunchtime is £50
