The gathering was organised by the Revd Giles Carpenter, Diocesan Director of Vocations. Giles has oversight of the selection and training of candidates for ordained ministry in the Diocese of Chichester. He said:

“The event provided a valuable opportunity for learning, conversation, and shared encouragement as the ordinands continue their formation for public ministry.

“The group explored everything from the calling of deacons and priests to the realities of pastoral ministry in a world reshaped by AI, rising nationalism, and the tug-of-war over Christian values.

“A few brave curates also joined the day, sharing candid stories from their early weeks and months in parish life, offering practical reflections that helped ordinands prepare for the transition ahead.”

If you sense that God may be calling you to ordained ministry, talk to your vicar or chaplain in the first instance. Giles is assisted by the Deputy Diocesan Director of Ordinands, the Revd Jamie Gater. Giles or Jamie will arrange to meet with you as a first step.
