The Dean of Chichester presented the Archdeacon (who had already been collated ) before installing him as the new Archdeacon.

The Cathedral service including readings, music and prayers.

Russell was joined by family members, friends and former parishioners as well as being supported by the wider diocesan family.

The new Archdeacon studied physics in Oxford and, following work as an IT consultant, trained for ordination at Westcott House, Cambridge. After a rural curacy on the Oxfordshire / Berkshire border he ministered in the city of Oxford and in Ewell, Surrey.

He has lived in Chichester diocese for the past four years while working on a doctorate in Anglican canon law and assisting in local parishes. During the past year he has worked as an Acting Archdeacon in the diocese.

He is very much looking forward to his new ministry in the Archdeaconry of Hastings, and to getting to know the people, parishes, and places of East Sussex.

The Diocese's four archdeaconries now all have archdeacons: the Venerable Tom Carpenter, Archdeacon of Chichester; the Venerable Angela Martin, Archdeacon of Horsham; the Venerable Russell Dewhurst, Archdeacon of Hastings; and the Venerable Martin Lloyd Williams, Archdeacon of Brighton and Lewes.
