New Bishops’ Chaplain for Retired Clergy Appointed
Richard Moatt, former Rector of Lewes, has been appointed as the Bishops’ Chaplain for Retired Clergy and their households.
Richard will be working the equivalent of one day a week, primarily on Wednesdays, but hopes as the role develops to be flexible in meeting people where they are. Richard said:
“I’m very grateful to be appointed to this role. It demonstrates the importance that is placed on our retired clergy and their families. It is a recognition that having served faithfully over years they are still very much valued. I’m looking forward to going out to meet people already retired, or those about to retire, and using my pastoral gifts in times of need.”
Bishop Will said: “I am delighted at the appointment of Richard as our new Bishops’ Chaplain for Retired Clergy and their households. Richard has a priestly pastoral heart and experience of a variety of parish ministries both as an incumbent and latterly as an active retired priest of this diocese. The faithful ministry of our retired clergy and their families is a mainstay of the life of the diocese, and we are thrilled to have Richard continue our commitment to care for them.”
Richard takes on the role following Simon Hobbs, who retired earlier this year. He commenced his new post on 22 October. You can contact him by email at Richard.moatt@chichester.anglican.org.
