Greg said: “The Warden for Lay Ministry, a voluntary position, plays a vital role in championing and supporting Lay Ministry across the diocese and we’re delighted that Hazel will be taking up this role’.

As Warden for Lay Ministry, Hazel will work with Greg in encouraging and supporting lay ministry in general and in particular, all licensed and authorised lay ministers. The Warden ensures their pastoral wellbeing and assists in the development and delivery of their Continuing Ministerial Development (CMD). In addition, the Warden oversees Reader Ministerial Development Reviews (MDR), and provides guidance during transitions into retirement, offers pastoral support when needed, and contributes to the planning of diocesan events such as licensing and commissioning services, pilgrimages, and ministry days. The Warden also oversees the work of Assistant Wardens, fostering a cohesive and supportive network for lay ministry.

Hazel said: "I am excited about undertaking the role of Warden of Lay Ministry, supporting, encouraging and nurturing others to deliver God's message and fully living out their vocation and faith".

Hazel retired in 2020 after a 30-year career in HR, Organisational Development, and Learning. Originally from the Diocese of Southwark, Hazel held roles including Churchwarden, Safeguarding Officer, and Sacristan.

Now in Chichester, she worships at Holy Trinity, Bosham, where she continues as Churchwarden, Sacristan, and an Authorised Lay Minister for Worship & Liturgy. When not carrying out her duties with the Church and as a volunteer Ward Assistant at St Wilfrid’s Hospice in Bosham, Hazel enjoys walking, entertaining and singing.
