Diocese welcomes new Deacons
The Diocese of Chichester celebrated the ordination of four new Deacons this weekend.
The Diocese of Chichester joyfully celebrated the ordination of four new deacons this weekend, marking a significant moment in the life of the Church.
Hundreds gathered in Chichester Cathedral to witness the moving ceremony, where Bishop Ruth welcomed the newly ordained deacons and addressed the congregation. The service was the culmination of a three-day retreat led by Revd Canon Dr Earl Collins, offering the candidates time for reflection and preparation.
Ahead of the Cathedral service, the deacons gathered with the three Bishops, in the Bishop's Chapel, for prayer and the Bishop's Charge.
The ordination service was led by Bishop Ruth. She said: “For 950 years our cathedral has been a house of prayer, sending out men and women across Sussex to serve God’s purposes and make known his glorious gospel. As these new deacons go from here to their parishes we pray God’s rich blessing on them, their families and their communities."
Each deacon was vested in their stole amid cheers from family, friends, and parish supporters.
Huge thanks to everyone who played a part, in particular to the Cathedral staff for their dedication and care and the work of the Vocations team of the diocese.
The newly ordained Deacons will serve in various parishes throughout Sussex, bringing fresh energy and dedication to their communities they have been called to serve. Their roles will involve ministering alongside their parish priests, supporting congregations, and fostering connections between the Church and the wider community.
These celebrations not only honours the personal calling of these individuals but also reflects the Church's ongoing growth and commitment to serving diverse communities across Sussex.
Please join us in prayer, as these new Deacons begin their ministry.
