The Lay Apostolate
Welcome to the area of the website specifically designed for lay ministry in all its varying forms.
In the Diocese of Chichester, the Lay Apostolate refers to the active role of laypeople in evangelism, discipleship, and service, bringing the Gospel into everyday life and participating fully in the Church's mission. This includes Authorised Lay Ministry, Focal Ministry and more.
Diocesan Vision
The Lay Apostolate is central to our diocesan vision to know, love and follow Jesus. Rooted in baptism, lay ministry recognises that every Christian is called and gifted to share in God’s mission, both within the church and in the life of the world. As lay people grow in faith, are formed for service, and live out the Gospel in their everyday contexts, they bear witness to Christ’s love in parish, workplace and community.
"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here am I. Send me!" Isaiah 6:8
