Diocese of Chichester

Excellent Leaders

Great churches need great leaders. We have many excellent leaders across the diocese, both ordained and lay. This stream invests in supporting and developingthem,so they are strengthened spiritually and theologically, mission-focused, and equipped for today’s challenges.

Through mentoring, training, and lifelong learning pathways, we aim to nurture confident, creative ministers who can lead growth and inspire others.

To support our existing leaders, in addition to the ongoing CMD programme, we offer:

  • The Kindling Network – a national programme based within the diocese at St Michael’s Eastbourne that combines a ‘taste and see’ immersive experience with an onlinelearning community to provide the structured and sustained support needed to help leaders move from inspiration to implementation. Find out more about the Kindling Network at https://www.kindlingnetwork.co.uk/
  • ‘Leading your Church into Growth’ – courses and conferences to encourage, inspire, and equip church leaders and congregations across the UK and beyond for lasting growth. We will be running a diocesan specific course in the autumn. Find out more at https://www.leadingyourchurchintogrowth.org.uk
  • Leadership Training from CPAS (https://www.cpas.org.uk/ ). We’re working with them to discuss how their training streams can best support the growth strategy – so watch this space for further details.

We know we also need to develop new leaders.

Plans include a proactive vocations strategy for both ordained and lay vocations.By doubling the number entering ordained ministry and expanding lay leadership, we’ll build a strong pipeline for the future.

Excellent Leaders isn’tjust about skills - it’s about forming people who lead with faith, courage, and collaboration. When leaders flourish, churches flourish.

How can I engage with this stream?

These elements are provided to leaders in the Diocese of Chichester either completely free, or with a grant available to subsidise attendance. To find out more:
