Warden

The Warden has a key role in supporting and developing lay ministry across the diocese. The Warden creates and curates resources to support continuing ministerial development, as well as overseeing the Ministerial Development Review (MDR) process for Readers.

Assistant Wardens

The Assistant Wardens for Lay Ministry support lay ministry by promoting it locally, conducting MDR reviews, offering pastoral care, and organising chapter meetings and events for Readers and ALMs within their archdeaconries.

Alison Hassell – Hastings Archdeaconry

I serve as a Licensed Reader at St Mary’s Church, Battle, where I have lived and worshipped for over three decades. A retired NHS Dietitian and nurse, I now volunteer in hospital chaplaincy. John Sheppard – Chichester Archdeaconry

I am a Reader at Fishbourne and Apuldram, licensed in 2008. I support Messy Church and Reader Ministry development. A part-time consultant, husband, father, and grandfather, I also guide at Chichester Cathedral and lead walking holidays. Martin Miller – Brighton And Lewes Archdeaconry

A retired Chartered Accountant, I’ve served as a Reader at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Brighton, since 2005. I hold a BA in Religious Education and am pursuing an MA in Christian Ministry. Martin Hennock – Horsham Archdeaconry

I serve as a Reader at St Mark’s Holbrook and St Nicolas Itchingfield, combining town and village ministry. A semi-retired consultant with a background in engineering and business, I focus on Bible teaching and discipleship.
