Bishop Martin will be baptising and confirming candidates at the Easter Vigil on the evening of Holy Saturday: 4 April 2026.

This will be a solemn, but also joyful occasion as we welcome new Christians to be baptised and confirmed at this time, in the traditional context of the Easter celebrations: ‘if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him’ (Rom 6.8).

We would be delighted to welcome candidates from any parish in the diocese whose clergy would like to present them for confirmation. Although clergy are of course invited to accompany and present their candidates, we realise that this may not be possible (for example if you have an evening service in your own parish) and we can happily make appropriate arrangements for them to be presented by one of the Cathedral clergy.

If you have candidates you would like to put forward, please contact Richard Paterson, Head of Liturgy and Music richard.paterson@chichestercathedral.org.uk for the necessary forms and any advice about logistics.

If you would like more information about the nature of the service itself, please feel free to contact the Dean: dean@chichestercathedral.org.uk

The Easter Vigil will take place at 7.30pm (it lasts for approximately two hours). Candidates are asked to arrive by 6pm at the latest for a rehearsal. We will send an e-mail out during Lent to everyone who has registered to give them details about what to expect on the day.
