Is your congregation safe?

Parishes throughout the diocese have been engaging well with Simple Quality Protects (SQP) a tool introduced as a way of responding to the question ‘how do I know my parish is safe’?

SQP offers parishes the reassurance that they are doing all that is required to keep their congregations safe.

From now until Christmas, members of the safeguarding team, along with volunteer helpers, are to undertake a mammoth task to visit every Deanery and look at the evidence produced by the parishes in that Deanery.

Heading up the programme is Assistant Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor, Morag Keane. Morag explained why this important work is being carried out now.

“Bishop Martin has shared the next phase of our strategy for 2020 and beyond, as ‘focussing more clearly on needs, challenges and opportunities and seeing the church as a ‘family of all ages, loving, serving, contributing and receiving together.’

“By overseeing this important piece of work, it should reassure the parishes that they are doing all they can to ensure the safety congregations paramount. By fully engaging with SQP and successful completion of Level 1, parishes will be awarded a certificate that they can display"
