Members of the Cathedral’s chapter team have pledged to take part in this year’s Ride and Stride to support Sussex Historic Churches Trust and thank them for a significant grant received for the cathedral’s roof.
Chichester Cathedral received a substantial grant of £25,000 from Sussex Historic Churches Trust to support the vital project to restore and re-cover the cathedral’s roof.
Sussex Historic Churches Trust supports urgent repairs and restoration for historic churches, chapels and meeting-houses across Sussex. The funds distributed are raised from the annual Ride & Stride – a sponsored ride or walk in which people all over Sussex walk or cycle between churches, exploring and enjoying the countryside.
In recognition of the generous grant received from Sussex Historic Churches Trust, Chichester Cathedral has pledged to enter a team to participate in this year’s Ride and Stride (Saturday 14th September). David Coulthard, Communar & Executive Director of Chichester Cathedral, is leading the Cathedral Team on a cycle route starting from the Cathedral. If you would like to join David’s cycling team or would prefer to walk please contact Ali George 01243 812480 email@example.com.
Participants are asked to raise money through sponsorship. You will also be helping Chichester Cathedral as 50% of the sponsorship goes directly to your chosen Church, the other 50% to the SHCT fund.
Riders and striders across Sussex will be supporting their local church by taking part and churches across Sussex open their buildings for the day to welcome the visitors. They arrive either on foot or bicycle – although there are no restrictions on how you travel between churches. One year someone completed a circuit on horseback!
