Diocesan Registrar appointed to post in Wales

Matthew Chinery, Legal Secretary for the Bishop of Chichester and Diocesan Registrar for the Diocese of Chichester for the past five years, has been appointed Head of Legal Services to the Representative Body of the Church in Wales.

The Bishop of Chichester, Dr Martin Warner said today: “Matthew’s wisdom, astonishing knowledge of the law, and his humour, have made him an indispensable colleague in complex and challenging times.

“His commitment to Christian faith, and to this diocese which nurtured that faith in him as a cathedral chorister, has often taken him beyond the call of duty.

“Our abiding respect and gratitude, and our prayers go with him as he moves to Wales.”

Gabrielle Higgins, Diocesan Secretary added: “We congratulate Matthew on his new role and thank him for his outstanding commitment to the diocese. His influence and skilful handling of diocesan business have taken the diocese through many key moments in its recent history. “We wish him well in his new role and he goes with our blessing.”

Matthew takes up his new post in April.
