Five new Church of England Readers were licensed by the Bishop of Horsham, Mark Sowerby, in Chichester Cathedral on Saturday 29 September. They were supported by family, friends and church members who joined them in the Cathedral for the service.
In welcoming the new readers, Bishop Sowerby said:
“We pray that their preparation and training will bear much fruit under God’s guidance and in the power of His Spirit. We trust that their ministry will prove a blessing to communities in which they serve.”
“Congratulations to all of them on behalf of the diocese.”
The new Readers are:
Stephen Argent, based at St Augustine’s Scaynes Hill;
Don Bawtree of Bishop Hannington Memorial Church, Hove;
Lesley Lynn representing Holy Trinity Church, Frant with Eridge;
Fiona Pearl from St Mary’s, Barcombe
Maria Sadler from St Mary’s, The Octagon
Readers are licensed to work alongside parish clergy and have a range of responsibilities including preaching and leading worship.
Please continue to pray for them and for the parishes in which they will serve.
