Exploration Days - Year of Vocation 2019

Exploration Day 1: Called to Prayer

Date and Time: 9 February 2019 10.00 - 14.30

Venue: Monastery of the Holy Trinity, Crawley Down, Crawley, West Sussex RH10 4LH

This is a day aimed at people exploring a deeper life of prayer in the context of exploring a calling to ordained ministry in the Diocese. Any form of Christian ministry needs to be founded upon a life of prayer. But how do we do this in practice – and what are the pitfalls?

Led by our Vocations Officer, the Rev Dr Paul Redparth, with input from Fr Colin CSWG. This workshop hopes to answer these important questions. Note that, due to available space at the monastery, this event is limited to 20 people.

Exploration Day 2: Exploring the Church of England

Date and Time: 4 May 2019 10.30 - 15.30

Venue: Church House Hove, 211 New Church Road, Hove, BN3 4ED 10am-3.30pm.

This second of our Year of Vocation Exploration Days seeks to help people understand the character of the Church of England through the prism of history. We will look at the themes of continuity and change, diversity and unity from the Reformation to the present day. There is such a variety of church practice, liturgy and even doctrine in the Church of England, so we will ask the question of where these traditions have come from. We will use the changing prayer books and patterns of worship in the Church of England as the basis of our exploration as well as looking at some of the great examples of Anglican spirituality. This is much more than a dry, academic exercise, rather akin to opening the doors of a treasure house.

Led by the Rev'd Vanessa Baron, Associate Vicar of St Mary Magdalene, Lyminster. Vanessa was previously Chaplain of St Paul's Girls School in London, where she also taught Theology.

This Day may be of particular interest to people exploring authorized ministries in the Church of England but is open to all.
