Chichester Diocesan Board of Finance

The Diocesan Board of Finance (DBF), officially known as the Chichester Diocesan Fund and Board of Finance Incorporated, is a registered charity charitable (No 243134) and a company limited by guarantee (No 133558).

It is the financial and legal executive of the Diocesan Synod and is responsible for financing of the Diocesan Synod’s activities. The membership includes lay and clergy from the deaneries to ensure that the views of parishes are represented.

Being a 'Limited Company', the members of the DBF are legally regarded as Directors; and in agreeing to act as a directors, each member is liable to £1, should the charitable company be wound up.

A booklet detailing the Diocesan budget is produced each year and agreed by Diocesan Synod. The statutory financial statements are produced along with the “Red Book”. The “Red Book” is a more detailed breakdown of the reported statutory financial statements and reports the financial activities against the agreed budget.

All these booklets are available for download from this website

The Finance Department

It is responsible for the monitoring of all aspects of Diocesan income and expenditure, the preparation of various management accounts in particularly Budgeting, Cost control and Parish Contribution reports.

The department also deals with, the Parish Ministry Cost Calculations and Parish Trust matters. It offers parishes a point of guidance and assistance, especially in respect of accounting regulations and methods of book-keeping. To facilitate this the team provides regular training events and information for parish treasurers.

The team is also responsible for the collection of  parish data for use by the Diocese for use in statistical and financial purposes.
