Sustainability

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ in the Diocese of Chichester

First of all 'Thank You' to everyone who has kindly participated in our energy survey which we sent out on 19th February 2015. There was a tremendous response, 67%, which, in my opinion, reflects how seriously both individuals and parishes are taking the issue of reducing our carbon footprint and finding other ways of sustainable development.

There is no time to lose to find and implement alternative ways of using the natural resources that we have at our management. Management, not disposal.

The attached pdf presentation was given on Friday 1st May to members of Church House. The data is quite outstanding and easy to follow so we want to share this with you as promised. We are sending this out to everyone in the Diocese, not only those who returned the survey but those who have been unable to do so thus far. Good data is always precious to have, as the recent General Election has just shown! The better the data the more reliable the predicted forecasts and outcomes. For this reason, therefore, we are continuing to receive the data from parishes so that our analysis can be even more productive and accurate. If you are one of these who still haven't replied please do so if you can. It will be most appreciated.

Our next step is to take this presentation to the Bishops Staff meeting in July. We hope to implement a strategy that will lead to a Diocesan Fuel Management Programme. The will of the Diocese in reducing the carbon footprint has already been established. We need now to drive the initiative forward. I hope you find the presentation useful and 'Thank You' once again for your invaluable contribution in the production of this work.
