Year of Bible lectures start this week.

The first of four lectures to be held across Sussex to mark the Diocese of Chichester's Year of the Bible takes place on Thursday (23 March. 10:30am)

The Bishop of Chichester, Dr Martin Warner, has invited The Revd Professor David Wilkinson, Principal of St John's College, Durham, to look at the issue of "The Bible and Science". The lecture will be offered at Holy Cross Church, Woodingdean.

Professor Wilkinson has written widely on the subject and is regarded as a leading authority on the issue.

"Many lay folk are often asked questions about the bible and science and I know it's a subject which is often discussed amongst clergy," said Dr Warner today.

Three other lectures looking at the bible and politics, the bible in the media and what is widely-known as the effects of biblical scholarship on how the bible is regarded will follow later in the year.

At the moment, during Lent, many of the churches in the Diocese are engaged in a Lent course designed for the Year of the Bible which encourages Christians to get to know their bibles better.

Details of the other study day lectures can be found on the website events page here
