Diocese welcomes new Diocesan Officer

Family, friends and colleagues gathered for the welcoming and licensing of The Revd Jayne Prestwood as Lay Vocation and Ministry Officer for the Diocese of Chichester.

The service, during Evensong at Chichester Cathedral last night, was conducted by The Bishop of Chichester, Dr Martin Warner, and marked the formal start of Jayne's ministry in this role.

Jayne joins the Apostolic life team as the officer responsible for encouraging and equipping lay ministry within the diocese. This will include Jayne taking the lead in the review and re-imagining of lay ministry across the diocese, a need clearly identified in the diocesan strategy and also national strategic aims.

Jayne is originally from Grimsby in north Lincolnshire. She was ordained in 1994 and has served her whole ministry so far in the diocese of Manchester. Jayne has experience as a parish priest and in theological education having served as Vice Principal to the Manchester Diocesan OLM and Reader training course and as Local Ministry Officer for the diocese. In this role, she was responsible for oversight of the diocesan vocations course and for establishing an Authorized Lay Ministry training course. More recently, Jayne has served as Ecumenical Chaplain to the three Manchester Universities and Minister to St Peter’s the University Church. She has been a Bishop’s Examining Chaplain for ordination candidates for 16 years.
