The annual ride and stride will take place across Sussex on 8 September and hundreds of churches will soon be preparing to welcome those taking part.
Some churches will simply display a sign-in sheet but many will open to provide free refreshments for the hundreds of riders and striders on their route around as many churches as they wish.
Graham Pound, the county organiser, said: “It is a great fun day out for all the family. Half of the money raised will go to your church and the other half to the Sussex Historic Churches Trust which awards grants for the repair and maintenance of Sussex churches.”
All under-16s who take part will receive a certificate. Winners of the individual, team and under-16s’ trophies will also be honoured at an award ceremony.

A Flower Festival at St Mary the Virgin Willingdon has been planned for the weekend of the Ride and Stride so the church can give an extra warm welcome to those taking part in Ride and Stride. The church has organised a special welcoming group and refreshments.
The flower festival is being held over three days 7, 8, 9 September. The theme “Musical Medley”, is in aid of the restoration of the church organ. There will be a special concert by Fr Michael Main - “Organ Music for a Summer’s Evening” on Saturday evening at 6 pm. On Sunday 9th there is a special Festival Eucharist at 9.45 am and the festival concludes with a Hymns and Pimms Songs of Praise.
So, let's make Ride and Stride around the Diocese in September 2018 the biggest yet! Encourage people in your parish to register to take part and keep your church open for the day to welcome riders and striders.
